Dad’s French Toast 

Any time my mom was gone or sick and my dad was in charge of dinner he would make us French Toast. For YEARS I tried and failed at making my French Toast like his. One day I finally asked him how he made it. His recipe is so easy and uncomplicated that I laugh at my many, MANY attempts. I make it now and I’m transported back to my dad’s dinner time.


Dad’s French Toast 

5-6 eggs

1 cup of milk

1 tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Black pepper 

Mix together and dredge bread in the mixture (flipping quickly) and cooking until toasty and brown in medium heated saucepan.

Aunt Week

I have a few favorite recipes that are named after my aunts. I think this week will be devoted to them.  My dad’s younger sister, Aunt Sherry, is an AMAZING cook. Her food is always a hit. Aunt Jana’s Chocolate sauce 

We had a big family reunion in Minnesota a few years back and aunt Jana hosted. We had an ice cream night and she made the yummiest sauce. It’s so delicious and easy! Thanks, Jana!! Chocolate sauce (for fondue or ice cream) 32 oz. chocolate chips (equivalent to 5 1/3 cups) 1 pt cream 1 cup caramel sauce  6 Tbs Torani hazelnut syrup  Combine in a saucepan and melt

Aunt Jana’s Maple Syrup

My aunt Jana made waffles and homemade syrup for breakfast. It was so delightful. I went back for more....and I generally don’t do that. It’s so easy too. We make it and feed our kids the store brand while my husband and I enjoy the good stuff. Aunt Jana’s Maple Syrup  2 1/4 cups water  4 cups sugar  1/2 cup brown sugar  Bring to boil.
